Buran Ghati Trek is a hidden gem nestled in the heart of Himachal Pradesh. Known for its stunning variety of landscapes, thrilling mountain pass crossing, and dense pine forests, this trek is perfect for adventurers looking to go beyond the usual routes. It connects the charming village of Janglik to the historic village of Barua in Kinnaur. The Buran Ghati Pass, standing at 15,000 ft, offers one of the most adrenaline-pumping snow wall descents in the Indian Himalayas.

This trek has everything—ancient villages, lush forests, glacial lakes, meadows, and a dramatic climb followed by a thrilling rappel down the icy slope. Ideal for those with prior trekking experience and good fitness levels.

Itinerary

Day 1: Arrival in Shimla – Drive to Janglik (9,200 ft)
  • Pickup from Shimla early morning.

  • 8–9 hour scenic drive via Rohru to the beautiful village of Janglik.

  • Stay in homestays or camps near the village.

  • Briefing and acclimatization walk in the evening.

Day 2: Janglik to Dayara Thatch (11,000 ft)
  • Start the trek with a gradual climb through pine and oak forests.

  • Pass wooden huts, wildflowers, and open meadows.

  • Reach the stunning campsite of Dayara Thatch.

  • Camp under the stars.

Day 3: Dayara Thatch to Litham (11,800 ft)
  • Cross stream crossings and meadows.

  • Stunning views of Dhauladhar range.

  • Arrive at Litham with views of Chandranahan waterfall.

  • Rest and explore nearby glacial areas.

Day 4: Acclimatization & Chandranahan Lake Visit (13,900 ft)
  • Short but steep hike to Chandranahan Lake.

  • A sacred glacial lake fed by snow-melt streams.

  • Return to Litham for overnight stay.

Day 5: Litham to Dhunda (13,000 ft)
  • Moderate ascent with jaw-dropping views.

  • Walk on moraine trails with mountains surrounding the path.

  • Dhunda is a windy, cold, but beautiful alpine campsite.

  • Prepares you for the pass crossing.

Day 6: Dhunda – Buran Ghati Pass (15,000 ft) – River Camp (11,000 ft)
  • The most thrilling day of the trek.

  • Early morning climb to the pass with snow wall crossing.

  • Rope and gear support for descent (rappelling/snow sliding).

  • Long descent to River Camp.

  • Challenging but exhilarating day.

Day 7: River Camp to Barua – Drive to Shimla
  • Easy walk through apple orchards and barley fields.

  • Arrive at Barua village in Kinnaur.

  • Drive back to Shimla. Trek ends.

Food Menu

  • Breakfast: Wake-up Tea/Coffee, Biscuits, Aloo Paratha with Achaar, Boiled Egg, Bread with Butter/Jam, Fresh Fruits.

  • Lunch: Roti/Chapati, Rice/Chawal, Manchurian Rice, Salad, Dal (Rajma/Mixed Dal), Mixed-Veg, Kofta Curry.

  • Snacks: Tea/Coffee, Pakoda, Finger Chips, Veg Cutlet, Maggi, Soup, Popcorn.

  • Dinner: Roti/Chapati, Rice/Chawal, Matar Paneer, Mixed Dal, Salad, Papad, Sweets (Gulab Jamun, Jalebi), Fruit Custard.

  • Better connectivity via Chandigarh Airport (113 km).

  • Kalka is the nearest major railway station.

  • Take the famous toy train from Kalka to Shimla or taxi/bus.

  • Well connected by Volvo buses or private taxis from Delhi and Chandigarh.

  • Overnight buses available to Shimla from ISBT Kashmiri Gate.

Cancellation Due to Unforeseen Events:
  • If we cancel the trek due to unexpected situations like natural disasters, floods, or political unrest, we will issue a trek voucher instead of a refund. This voucher is valid for one year and can be used for the same or a different trek.

     

Cancellation Due to Personal Reasons:

If you cancel your trek for personal reasons, the following policy applies:

  • No Cash Refunds: We do not provide cash refunds. Instead, a voucher will be issued.

  • Cancellation 30 Days or More Before Trek: A voucher for the full booking amount will be issued.

  • Cancellation 20–29 Days Before Trek: 50% of the booking amount will be deducted, and the remaining amount will be provided as a voucher.

  • Cancellation Less Than 20 Days Before Trek: No voucher will be issued.

No. This trek involves a technical pass crossing at 15,000 ft with steep descent. It’s best for trekkers with prior high-altitude experience.

 

 

Is there snow during the trek?

Yes. Snow is common around May–June and even in September at the pass.

 

Is this trek safe for solo travelers
  • It is advisable to undertake this trek with a guide or as part of a trekking group. The trek is challenging, and going solo without experience in high-altitude trekking is not recommended.

 

What should I pack for the trek?
