Kafni Glacier Trek

Itinerary

Day 1: Kathgodam to Loharkhet (1,760 m) – 180 km drive (7-8 hrs)
  • Arrive at Kathgodam Railway Station in the morning.

  • Meet our trek leader and team.

  • Drive through Almora and Bageshwar, enjoying views of the Kosi and Gomti rivers.

  • Reach Loharkhet, a small hamlet with beautiful mountain views.

  • Stay overnight in a guesthouse/tent.

Day 2: Loharkhet to Dhakuri (2,680 m) – 10 km trek (6-7 hrs)
  • Start the trek with a steep ascent through dense oak and rhododendron forests.

  • Enjoy stunning views of the Pindari Valley on the way.

  • Dhakuri offers a panoramic view of peaks like Nanda Kot and Maiktoli.

  • Stay overnight in a forest campsite or guesthouse.

Day 3: Dhakuri to Khati (2,210 m) – 9 km trek (5-6 hrs)
  • A gradual descent through forests and charming Kumaoni villages.

  • Khati is the last inhabited village on this route, known for its hospitality.

  • Enjoy the local culture, traditional houses, and breathtaking landscapes.

  • Stay in a village homestay or tents.

Day 4: Khati to Dwali (2,800 m) – 11 km trek (6-7 hrs)
  • Trek along the Pindar River, crossing wooden bridges and waterfalls.

  • Dwali is a scenic spot at the confluence of Pindari and Kafni Rivers.

  • Stay overnight in a guesthouse or tents.

Day 5: Dwali to Kafni Glacier (3,860 m) and back to Dwali – 16 km trek (8-9 hrs)
  • The most challenging yet rewarding day of the trek!

  • Follow a gradual ascent through moraine-covered paths.

  • Reach the breathtaking Kafni Glacier, surrounded by Nanda Kot and Nanda Devi.

  • Spend some time soaking in the views before trekking back to Dwali.

  • Stay overnight in tents/guesthouse.

Day 6: Dwali to Khati – 11 km trek (5-6 hrs)
  • Retrace your steps back to Khati through forests and riverbanks.

  • Stay overnight in a village homestay or tents.

Day 7: Khati to Loharkhet – 19 km trek (8-9 hrs)
  • A long but gradual descent back to Loharkhet.

  • Stay overnight in a guesthouse.

Day 8: Loharkhet to Kathgodam – 180 km drive (7-8 hrs)
  • Drive back to Kathgodam, marking the end of an unforgettable journey.

  • Drop-off at Kathgodam Railway Station.

How to Reach Kedarnath

  • Nearest Airport: Pantnagar Airport (250 km from Loharkhet).

  • You can take a taxi from Pantnagar to Kathgodam and then proceed by road.

  • The nearest railway station is Kathgodam, well connected to Delhi, Lucknow, and Kolkata.

  • From Kathgodam, a 7-8 hour drive will take you to Loharkhet.

  • Regular buses and taxis are available from Delhi to Kathgodam/Almora/Bageshwar.

  • From Bageshwar, hire a taxi to reach Loharkhet.

Cancellation Due to Unforeseen Events:
  • If we cancel the trek due to unexpected situations like natural disasters, floods, or political unrest, we will issue a trek voucher instead of a refund. This voucher is valid for one year and can be used for the same or a different trek.

     

Cancellation Due to Personal Reasons:

If you cancel your trek for personal reasons, the following policy applies:

  • No Cash Refunds: We do not provide cash refunds. Instead, a voucher will be issued.

  • Cancellation 30 Days or More Before Trek: A voucher for the full booking amount will be issued.

  • Cancellation 20–29 Days Before Trek: 50% of the booking amount will be deducted, and the remaining amount will be provided as a voucher.

  • Cancellation Less Than 20 Days Before Trek: No voucher will be issued.

What is the difficulty level of the Kafni Glacier Trek?

The trek is moderate and suitable for beginners with good fitness. Some sections, especially the ascent to Kafni Glacier, require stamina and endurance.

What kind of accommodation is provided?

We provide guesthouses in villages and tented camps at higher altitudes. Basic facilities such as bedding and meals are included.

 

Is there mobile network connectivity?

Mobile networks are available in Bageshwar and Khati but disappear beyond that. We recommend informing your family before the trek.

 

What should I pack for the trek?
  • Warm clothes, comfortable trekking shoes, raincoat, gloves, personal medicines, and a power bank.
  • Don’t worry! We provide a complete checklist before the trip.
Can we charge electronic devices?

Charging facilities are available in villages but not beyond Khati. Carry a power bank for higher camps.
